Kathleen Turner Not a Fan of Nic Cage’s “Stupid Voice” and “Fake Teeth”

Kathleen Turner, who starred in one of the best movies of all-time, War of the Roses — which had THE best tagline of all time, “Once in a lifetime comes a motion picture that makes you feel like falling in love all over again. This is not that movie.” — has written a book about her struggle with fame and alcoholism and blah, blah, blah. . .

. . . But let’s get to the juicy part, shall we?

Kathleen also dishes the dirt on some of her male co-stars. I present the highlights:

On Nicolas Cage (Peggy Sue Got Married): “… Oh, that stupid voice of his and the fake teeth! Honestly, I cringe to think about it. … He caused so many problems. He was arrested twice for drunk-driving and, I think, once for stealing a dog. He’d come across a chihuahua he liked and stuck it in his jacket. . . On the last night of filming, he came into my trailer after he’d clearly been drinking heavily. He fell on his knees and asked if I could ever forgive him. I said, “Not right now. I have a scene to shoot. Excuse me,” and just walked out. Nicolas didn’t manage to kill the film, but he didn’t add a lot to it, either.”

Candy says: Wait — you’re not allowed to stick people’s chihuahuas in your coat? Uh-oh.

On Michael Douglas (War of the Roses, Romancing The Stone & Jewel of the Nile): “Michael had originally intended to cast Debra Winger in my part [in Romancing the Stone], but they hadn’t got along as well as he’d hoped. They’d met to discuss it at a Mexican restaurant, and she bit him — or so he said. . . I hadn’t known Michael (who was then estranged from his first wife, Diandra) before we started filming, but we bonded from the start and I soon found myself falling in love with him.”

Candy says: I always like to top off my fajitas with a nice bite of shoulder. Michael sounds uptight.

On Burt Reynolds (Switching Channels): “My unhappiest experience as an actress? Well, that would have to be a film called Switching Channels, which came out in 1987. For whatever reason, the first thing Burt said to me was: ‘I’ve never taken second billing to a woman.’ … Every day there were nasty little digs. For instance, because of my pregnancy, the production team had given me a golf cart so I didn’t have to walk around too much — and Burt even made fun of that. He was just nasty! . . . He later accused me of trying to get him sacked every day and publicly declared that the sound of my name made him want to vomit.”

Candy says: Once in a lifetime comes a man who makes you fall head over heels with his sensitivity, humility and hairless back. Burt Reynolds is not that man.

You know what…I love Kathleen Turner. I always did enjoy the fact that even in the 80’s her characters tended towards being kick ass even if they started off mousey. That she’s poking at Nic ‘I look like a Peadophile’ Cage makes me lurve her more.

    ROTFLMAO Great post!

  3. Jo Jo says:

She was great in “Body Heat.” I love her low voice. I wonder if she wrote anything about William Hurt?

  4. scott says:

was that one of those talking chihauhuas?!!

  5. scott says:

i meant, err was that one of those taco-ing chihuahua?!

  6. C says:

Call it ‘low talker’ versus ’slow talker’. Tranny-voiced has-been Kathleen Turner has apparently got actor Nicholas Cage, (who speaks slower than a phone sex operator with a thyroid condition), in her cross-hairs. Look out.
