Jessica Alba, who fancies herself an unwilling sex symbol despite willingly appearing in a bikini in 99% of her movies, says she hopes her child doesn’t pursue a career in Hollywood — because she’d prefer that s/he be a “nerd.”
The actress, who is currently in her second trimester with fiancĂ© Cash Warren’s baby, tells MovieHole.net:
”I want my kid to be a nerd. I want him to be really, really smart. I want them to be in the band or orchestra. No, that’s a joke. I keep telling my fiancĂ©, ‘Our kid can’t be cool. It has to be a nerd.’ They’re so much more dynamic.”
Um, so not only does having a decent grade point average make you a nerd, but being in the orchestra makes you a JOKE. Well, all I have to say to that is…
Violists rule! The Pennsylvania All-State Orchestra of ‘94 rocked the HOUSE, baby!
See? Clearly, orchestra members can be cool, too.

ahaha oh Candy, you’re adorable. nerds are fabulous, and I played first-chair french horn in middle school! yay
February 4th, 2008 at 1:59 pmI KNEW I liked you, Javelin. We nerds gotsta stick together. Get down with your bad self and French Horn!
February 4th, 2008 at 2:18 pmLOVE the Gunne Sax dress, Candy.
February 4th, 2008 at 2:44 pmI bet all the nerds Jessica Alba didn’t shag in school are like ‘oh NOW she thinks we’re cool!’
February 4th, 2008 at 2:48 pmThis is great, and love the big
hair.
But Candy, enquiring minds
February 4th, 2008 at 3:29 pmwant to know, Do you also do
Devil Went Down to Georgia
on your fiddle?
Oh, librarian kathleen — like a knife through the heart! I play the *viola*, not the violin. A very important distinction. Violists are MUCH cooler.
But I can karaoke the hell out of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” after a few drinks. Love that song.
February 4th, 2008 at 3:42 pmClassical piano here–no orchestra instruments.
Do you still play?
February 4th, 2008 at 4:19 pmThat hair. That dress. That musical instrument.
I may be in love!
February 4th, 2008 at 4:35 pmAll Nerds and Dorks come together and hearby ban Jessica’s baby from our club!
February 4th, 2008 at 4:42 pmMidevil — I’m afraid classical piano is a bit too cool to achieve nerd status, but I won’t hold that against you. I haven’t played for a few years, but hope to get back to it soon.
Ron — I know, I know… it’s impossible to resist the Aqua Net-laden hair and flowered Jessica McClintock frock. It’s quite an alluring combination.
Michelle — I second that motion!
February 4th, 2008 at 5:08 pmWhat? Too cool? Whatever!
*comes to hangout anyway*
February 4th, 2008 at 5:10 pmWell, the way her finacee’ is dressed, that kid should have no problem being a “nerd.”
February 4th, 2008 at 5:44 pmwoops, i meant “fiancee’”
February 4th, 2008 at 5:45 pmI was always last chair. I could never beat that nerd Marcy Crockett out of first chair…or those other nerds in second and third. It’s cool, Marcy fell off the bus in 10th grade and landed on her face and had to get two new front teeth. So, in the end, I win. I only have one front tooth that’s fake.
Flutists rule!!!!
February 4th, 2008 at 6:24 pmQ. What’s the range of a Viola?
A. About 35 feet if you have a good arm.
February 4th, 2008 at 10:42 pmQ: If you’re lost and need directions, should you ask the good violist, the bad violist, or the Easter Bunny?
A: The bad violist because the other two don’t exist.
Oh, I’ve heard them all, Stephen!
February 4th, 2008 at 10:54 pmThanks for sharing that,
February 5th, 2008 at 5:33 amCandy!!
Percussion here. Cymbals, triangle and occasionally the xylophone. It’s like
one big, disconnected family here……
Band rules!!
I never played an instrument as a child.
February 5th, 2008 at 6:02 amI feel so left out.
I guess I’ll pack my bags and move along to another entertainment blog……
Bee hind, you can be Will Ferrell’s cow bell stand in! How’s that, eh? Most coolest instrument ever!
February 5th, 2008 at 2:25 pmChristopher Walken: More cow bell.
Midevil: More Christopher Walken.
February 5th, 2008 at 2:26 pmMidevil,
February 5th, 2008 at 4:06 pmI love Gene Frenkle!
It would be an honor.
Thanks!
God, every quote I read from Alba makes me hate her more and more! She seems so superficial and irrelevant. I feel bad for her kid, there’s no way her child will be intellectual because 1. Intelligence is partially inherited and 2. She ain’t smart herself, so she won’t encourage her child in that capacity. God I hate her.
