Dr. Drew is a brave, brave man…
In next month’s Playboy, Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew,” says:
“A lot of people in the public eye who behave strangely have mental illness we can learn from, and much of it is based on childhood trauma. . .
Take a guy like Tom Cruise. Why would somebody be drawn into a cultish kind of environment like Scientology? To me, that’s a function of a very deep emptiness and suggests serious neglect in childhood — maybe some abuse, but mostly neglect.”
Of course, Tom just shrugged off the comments because he’s used to them by now and likes to take the high road –
Um, NOT.
Tom’s lawyer fired back via that respectable legal battleground, Page Six:
“This unqualified television performer who is obviously just looking for notoriety is so grotesquely unprofessional as to pretend to diagnose Tom and others without ever meeting them. He seems to be spewing the absurdity that all Scientologists are mentally ill. The last time we heard garbage like this was from Joseph Goebbels.”
All heil Jesus Cruise!
I think the most shocking part of this is… Tom reads Playboy?!

I think it’s Tom’s LAWYER that reads Playboy!
June 12th, 2008 at 10:12 amWouldn’t it be in Tommy’s lawyer’s contract that he could only read things like Playgirl?
June 12th, 2008 at 11:18 amI think it’s hysterical that Tom’s lawyer mentions “diagnosing without having met” when that is exactly what Tom did to all the women suffering from post-partum depression. I mean, Tom should understand someone diagnosing without having met a person - especially since just like Tom, Dr. Drew has “studied psycology and knows psycology”. Unlike Matt Lauer, of course!
June 12th, 2008 at 2:19 pmMy Namesake: You got it!
Drew Pinsky has always come across as smart and savvy — even though he’s operating in the infotainment universe, he’s probably done far more good than most. His advice (as far as I’ve heard it)is dead on and straightforward without being judgemental.
June 12th, 2008 at 3:41 pmWhat a nerve Tommy-girl’s lawyer has to reference Goebbels. I suppose his only knowledge of the Nazis comes from that awful movie of Tommy “the good Nazi” that looks like it may never be released.
Let’s see:
Nazis: regarded homosexuals, people with developmental disabilities and the mentally ill as inferior; attempted to exterminate them.
Scientology: regards homosexuals and the mentally ill as capable of being “cured” through their cult. Regards people with developmental disabilities as “degraded beings”. (the reason John Revolta refuses to admit publicly that his son has autism).
Nazis: enforced power through paramilitary force the SS.
Scientology: enforces power through paramilitary force called SeaOrg. (in the late 60’s and early 70’s the British secret service were continually monitoring SeaOrg as a threat to British security).
June 12th, 2008 at 5:20 pmIBB: Every criticism aimed at Tommy Girl and Co$ = Hitler, Nazis, and evil, evil psychologists.
I wonder if the British Secret Service still keep an eye on them?
June 12th, 2008 at 6:24 pmDREW is correct. To join a CULT like Scientology when the founder was a drug addicted pusher and child abuser, you must have a screw loose in the cranial region
June 13th, 2008 at 11:05 amGreat comment Brit Bitch!
June 13th, 2008 at 2:47 pmThanks Holy Terror. I think Kathleen hit the nail on the head re.remote diagnosis. One of my favourite pastimes is to sing “fucking asshole, fucking asshole” to the Mission Impossible music, preferably with a friend!
