Oh, the horror! Yet another Miss USA has — GASP! — fallen down during the Miss Universe competition!
Well, what did we expect for choosing Miss Texas to represent us? The big hair alone is bound to make her topple over.
Okay, so yeah, I did laugh when I saw the video of the fall that SHOCKED THE WORLD. Catty and immature? Oh, sure. But who doesn’t enjoy watching pretty women or, better yet, Paris Hilton falling on their asses?
And what I found even more entertaining was the international media’s reaction to this inane development. Some key quotes:
“The fall has been criticized as a sham to the perfection of American pageants and finesse of American modeling and cat walking expertise. Crystal has ashamed the American dream and its not going down well with the American.”
–Thandian News (a Thai news site)
“For the second year in succession, the American entrant in the Miss Universe pageant failed to meet the crucial challenge of walking and smiling at the same time.”
–Times Online (A UK paper)
“To stumble and fall is embarrassing enough, but to do so in front of one billion television viewers during a celebration of all that is glamorous and feminine, is almost unthinkable.”
That’s right. This unthinkable abomination of a fall has ashamed us, the American! A moment of silence for this national tragedy, please.

You’re right, what’s an illegal war for the image of your country when your Miss falls on her arse?!

July 14th, 2008 at 1:37 pmI love this post - because I keep seeing these stories too - as if a beauty queen falling is some terrible earth-shattering crisis - get over it folks.
However I must admit I love the Times Online quote above.
