While discussing Jesse Jackson’s use of the N-word, The View ladies got a bit — shocker! — hot under the collar, especially — shocker! — Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who shed some crocodile tears.
Long story short: Elisabeth doesn’t believe anyone should use the word, including African-Americans! Whoopi doesn’t believe Elisabeth can understand her world! And Sherri still can’t believe the world is round!

Elisabeth: please get in a time machine back to the 1900’s and fuck off. The time when white people could tell people of other ethnic groups what to do, say, feel has been and gone and thank god for that.
July 17th, 2008 at 2:28 pmi agree with elisabeth as much as i can’t stand her. african americans telling white people that they can’t use the word but they can makes things even more divisive. given the awful history of the word, why don’t we just put it to rest already?
July 17th, 2008 at 3:00 pmIt’s a fair point Martini. I must admit that I cringe when I hear the word because it was drilled into me from age 0 that it was a word that must never be used, ever. The problem with the exchange on the view is that Elisabeth is too stupid and too fake (crocodile tears) to argue coherently and make a decent argument for not using it like yours.
July 18th, 2008 at 1:32 amI can’t stand her much of the time but I agree with her here. Why perpetuate usage of such a horrible word. If anyone non-black continues to hear the word, it will continue to desensitize no matter how many times you say “We can say it, you can’t.”
Aren’ there many other words that can be used instead?
