New Nominees for Parents of the Year: Mama and Papa Duff

Move over, Lohans!  We have a new dysfunctional celebrity family to entertain us.

Hilary Duff’s dad will be spending up to ten days in jail — no, not as punishment for allowing his daughters to subject us to Material Girls, but rather as part of a fight over cash for Hilary’s birthday party.

At least they care about the important things in life.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Mama Duff dragged her ex into court Wednesday to ask for — and I’m not kidding here — $25,000 to throw a party and buy a present for Hilary’s 21st birthday.  Which she HAD to spend because she’d invested $25K in Haylie’s birthday two years ago.

Twenty-five-thousand buckeroos?  Man.  I was just happy to get some lemon-drop shots and the “Chumbawamba” CD for my 21st.

Mama Duff claims the $10,000 her husband pays her in interim support each month is “not even enough to pay my own bills” and certainly not enough to afford such expensive birthday treats. She testified she has to rely on Hilary for financial help to pay her lawyers and other bills.

You mean Mama Duff only collects $120,000 a year?  Poor thing.  Let’s start a collection!  Send your donations to 1-800-GIVE-ME-A-BREAK.

After the judge told Papa Duff he had to shell out $12,500 for the bash — um, what? — he also decided to sentence Papa D to 10 days in jail for contempt of court for selling assets without court approval to the tune of $367,537.  Even worse, if unable to post bail, CandyKirby.com’s sources say he will be forced to listen to Hilary’s “Most Wanted” CD on repeat:

If it’s over, let it go and/Come tomorrow it will seem/So yesterday, so yesterday/I’m just a bird that’s already flown away…

Proven to be an even more effective deterrent than the prison bologna sandwiches!

“So Yesterday” was a track on her earlier album, Metamorphosis, not Most Wanted.
